TFL – Night Tube
Kemp London created striking neon signs and neon artwork for Transport for London to enhance their launch party for the 2015 night tube.
In order to inaugurate one of the most exciting updates to London’s transport system in recent years, Transport for London (TFL) held a massive launch party for the night tube, set to grace the city with 24-hour tube service from September 2015 onward. The party took place in September 2014 in an appropriately monumental location: at the very top of Europe’s tallest building, the Shard.
Working with Transport for London and Bounce Design Agency, Kemp London produced bespoke neon signs for the launch event that combined artistry and technology, creating an appropriate night time ambience by rendering traditional tube maps and insignia in luminous neon.
Among the signs produced, one of the most striking featured a multicoloured neon tube map with each of the night tube lines represented, all illuminated and overlapping with one another to produce a truly vibrant art piece. Situated in such a reflective, scenic location as the Shard, the neon works shone out and could be seen reflecting in the glass overlaid against the stunning backdrop of the London skyline.
Working to an extremely tight deadline, the Kemp London team permitted themselves no room for error as they produced the signs to perfection, carefully transported the neon works to the top floor of the Shard and set them in position just prior to the event.
