Neon signs make great artworks
12.05.2017
Neon signs have been used to advertise businesses since the 1930s and remain as popular as ever today because they still stand out. Surprisingly the same materials also made a big impact on the art world. Artists create incredible pieces of artwork using glass tubing, filling it with different gases and running electric current through to make them glow.
Today there are a number of artists renowned for their work with neon. Here are just a few of them; their work is definitely worth investigating if you are looking to see how you could employ the signage or neon displays.
John Issacs – Although mostly known for sculpture work, some of it rather grotesque, Issacs has also created some fantastic pieces in neon.
Joseph Kosuth – Many of Kosuth’s works are self referential, existing purely to describe themselves. Neon is a great medium for this, particularly with the combination of colours and light.
Kelly Mark – Neon lighting can be self-critical and funny if Mark’s work is anything to go by. The Canadian artist famously created a six foot tall piece of neon that said nothing was so important it needed to be said in this medium at that size.
Lori Hersberger – The Swiss artist produces some very special work because she thinks about not just the neon but also how the light interacts with the surroundings.
At KEMP London we can offer neon signs UK businesses and audiences will fall in love with. They can be used to promote a business, bring life to a stage show, or even as part of an exhibition. We can create almost anything in neon, including artwork, ensuring your needs are met effectively.
