Protect neon signs from dirt and bugs
08.05.2017
Whether you install neon signs indoors or outside you will need to do periodic maintenance to keep them looking their best for as long as possible. If you neglect to maintain a sign you may see the light start to fade, flickering, and even complete failure.
The first indication that a sign needs to be maintained is it doesn’t appear as bright as it normally does. This indicates that it needs to be cleaned to remove dust, dirt, and other things that mark and obscure the glass.
Dusting your sign periodically will help to keep it bright and colourful. A little more elbow-grease will be needed to deal with tough dirt, grease, and bird droppings if you have the sign outside. Use a gentle cleaning product and wipe the sign gently. Ensure it is turned off before you start and only use a very small amount of liquid. Once clean wipe to dry it off before turning back on.
Bugs can be a surprisingly big problem for neon signs. They are drawn to the bright light and can leave marks and obscure it. Getting rid of them can be tough. If the sign is indoors step up what you are doing to keep bugs out of the property, including using netting on open windows. Signs places outside are at more risk but you can tackle bugs at their source and use a clear plastic box to cover and protect the sign if you wish.
